I have been sailing a 1982 Catalina with a swing keel for several months. With the keel down and locked, how much heel can the boat safely handle? Does anyone know the righting angle of the Cat 22 if she is knocked down? Trevor

More than you can handle

There has been a lot of discussion here in the past about how much to heel a Cat. 22. For efficiency, you probably want to stay around 15 degrees. But for fun, she will handle a lot more than that. You will probably exceed your comfort level before the boat reaches its maximum capacity. I have been knocked down by an unexpected wind shear. The sails hit the water. She righted herself in seconds and suffered no damage whatsoever.
