Another approach is a lever that you attach to the back side of the motor and extends several feet above the motor. The lever could be made long enough to give you mechanical advantage when pulled by hand or when pulled forward by a rope to one of the boat's winches.
I assume your outboard is mounted on some sort of bracket on the transom of your boat. On my J24 this bracket was spring assisted, so all you had to do was push down on the top of the motor, move the release lever to unlock it from the down position and the spring would raise the motor. The bracket I had was similar to this. WM Model # 11887981
The new 4 stroke outboards are often heavier than their 2 stroke cousins so you may simply need a bracket designed with a stronger spring. Hope this helps.
Some Hobie 33's have a line spliced into the backstay a few feet off the deck. That line is used with blocks 2:1 or 3:1 to lift the motor out of its well. Could you devise a similar system?
I found a long (about 12 inch) piece of alum and screwed it onto the lift release handle. I then tied a rope with a loop in it onto the motor mount. All of this in order for me to be sitting up higher (not leaning way over) when I go to pull the motor up. Just a matter of getting better leverage.
I gave up trying to use the spring-assisted lift; I just couldn't get sufficient leverage from the cockpit to do it. Now, I leave the mount in the lowest position and tilt the engine out of the water. Much easier.
