I have a 14' Rendova inflatable. The hypolyn (I think that is how you spell it) is in very good condition. The hypolyn I'm guessing is 4-5 years old. The boat has been stored out of the water and covered all its life. A seam has opened up at the rear of the boat where the pontoon tapers down. The other problem is it is on the bottom so it recieves a lot of abuse.

I have tried fixing it myself but the edges of my patches keep coming loose. Also the same seam on the other pontoon is showing early signs of the same problem.

I'm thinking I am going to take it to Tradewind Inflatables in Costa Mesa but I know they will charge an arm and a leg. Does anyone know of someone who is very good and reasonable in the LA, Orange County, or inland impire.

Thanks for your help!

An arm and a leg is a fair price. A failure at the wrong time could cost both arms, both legs and your head. ;D

Have you tried contacting the manufacturer regarding the problem with the boat? Are you sure it is hypalon??

The manufacturer is no longer business. Yes I'm sure it is hypolyn.
I just "googled" hypolyn------------It doesn't come up . I have heard of a material called hypalon and that comes up when I google it . Try that search.

How did you attempt the repair? What steps did you follow? Are you sure it is not PVC? I repaired my PVC with no problems but the steps on the instructions were very specific. The patch stuck like crazy.

I'm postive it is a hypalon material. I followed the instructions very closely. The problem is that the split is on the seam where the pontoon tapers down at the rear of the boat (behind the transom). The flat patch cannot conform to all the angels and the pacth has very little stretch if any. I think due to the location of the seam split that portion of the pontoon needs to be replaced.

Well, if the pontoon needs to be replaced, it's probably going to cost you almost as much as buying a new dinghy would on sale, especially since the manufacturer is out of business. The pontoons don't come cheap, and replacing it is going to be pretty expensive too. Instead of investing in this questionable quality dinghy—I say questionable quality since the pontoon is separating after only four years or so, even though it's been covered and protected from UV, etc—why don't you just replace it. You'd have a new dinghy that was covered by a warranty and less headaches and fewer worries more likely than not.

bar none, the best folks to repair inflatables...

...are the folks that own river-rafting businesses. Problem is, most of them shut down in the off season.

a four-year old inflatable with blown seams. makes you wonder why the manufacturer went out of business.

My buddy swears that Avalon Rafts in Wilmington is the best around the Los Angeles Long Beach area.
