on the threads...

There are * 2 * types of teflon tape for threaded connections... the one that is (long term) resistant to diesel fuel is the the 'yellow' tape. You can use it everywhere else, from what I'm told, so I just keep that type on the boat. Not too much extra $$ at the plumbing supply house! -Jack

Compression fitting DO not require tape.....

If such a fitting is leaking its not the threads, its the compression ferrule or the copper under the ferrule has relaxed/deformed .... and there in no longer any metal-to-metal 'seal'. DRY is the only way to know if such fittings are 'sealed'.
