Need help sourcing this part...

Have a 1991 Hunter 27 and I need to replace what I'll call the ignition key module. It's the part in the exterior control panel where you insert the key and turn for ignition. The part still works fine electrically. It's failed because the ring holding it into the control panel has cracked and it's no longer able to hold itself in place. I also need to replace the plexiglass cover that originally protected most of the control panel as it broke out a couple years ago. Anybody have a suggestion as to where I should source these parts?

If it were me; I would take the part to a tractor or auto parts store and match the pins/lugs/function and hole size. (you may not use all the lugs or functions) You can build a Plexiglas cover easily if you have basic tools.

Ken has it right. I had same thing/ part break on me. Yanmar dealer has exact replacement. Wasn't overly expensive as boat bucks go. <$25.

I would choose Lexan instead of Plexiglass. Easier to work with and should last longer.

Not sure in this context, but I have always seen the little retainer piece referred to as an escutcheon. That may be useful in sourcing the correct piece rather than a complete ignition switch module.

Now what about this Lexan? I'd love to know how to work materials like Lexan and plexiglass, it's just that I always assumed it required more expensive tools and I never learned. Is there anywhere here on the net that can teach me how to work with Lexan or plexiglas?

Plexiglass can be cut and worked with a fine tooth saw such as a hack saw and the edges sanded with sand paper. Drill holes with a drill and std. bits. Ask your local glass shop about Lexan. I think it is the same, but check first.
