howdy all, our last time out while raising sail, a little plastic divider/separator located between the halyard sheaves next to the mast step broke and allowed the main halyard to cross over and jam under the jib sheave. it was easy enough to clear but scrutiny of the sheaves themselves led me to the conclusion that these will soon need to be replaced due to UV deterioration. does anyone know how to best go about removing the SS post on the which the sheaves and divider are mounted? my first impression is that the pin is pretty well buried in the deck except for the forward end which is recessed as installed. the aft end appears to be somewhere between the cabin deck and the liner. has anyone been in this territory before? thanks, ed aboard hoy-hoy #5

Remove the caulk at both ends and then pull the metal bar out and replace sheave. Make sure you recaulk when putting back in. Frank, I was surprised that you did not call me on this one. Crazy Dave Condon

Thanks Dave! I meant to ask you about it last time we talked. I might even put it off and have you fix it this winter. Seems like you could do a better job faster than I could. On the other hand maybe I could learn something useful fixing it myself.

Let the first mate (usually your wife) go midship and keep the lines running in the proper channel, come about quickly, and the boom will take care of the problem (the wife).Then use the insurance money to buy "More Beer".

Mr. Charlie; Sounds like you and the Mrs. do not get along well. YOu may think wishing the boom would hit your lady is funny but to be quite frank, I find it very distasteful in this forum. I think most men would have more respect for their wifes. Things can be said in a funny loving way like I do with my beloved Anny but to wish her dead in any sense is not funny. This forum is for informative purposes regarding the Hunter sailboats and if your lady or wife is a problem, how about leaving it in your home and not on the internet. I think most will agree with me. As for the beer, that is water. I prefere the home brew fire water which I doubt you could last long when drinking white lightning. Crazy Dave Condon

Dave and Mike must have totally lost their sense of humor.. FYI we have been married happily for 44 years, 3 sons, 7 grands and 2 great grands.The sons have kept us together, (neither of us would take them when the other wanted to leave). You fellows need to get a grip, lighten up and try to cultivate a sense of humor... Life is short, don't make it so miserable for yourselves and "drink more beer". Charlie

David.. The secret is ... don't ever,ever give her any reason to think you have any concerns about about the size of her beam. Make sure you inform her frequently of your appreciation of the thrust of her bow. Midship, don't even think about going there!!!! I agree with the heel angle, mine gets faint when we are over 10 degrees. "More beer" helps eleminate his problem....

How to reinstall the shaft?
well, thanks to everyone for help getting the deck sheaves off my boat. i've fabricated a new spacer and all ready to "glue" it back together except for one problem. how does one get the shaft back into position with the head inaccessible between the deck and the cabin liner, and no access to the shaft with all the washers, sheaves, and spacer in position? eagerly awaiting any useful ideas! thanks mucho - ed

Opposite Problem
I just submitted an article on the opposing problem. How does one get the shaft to stay in place? The original has been lost and the hole for the mount in th edeck seems to be a bit wallowed out. That seems to put more stress on the mount on the side towards the centerboard pulley. How to correct the problem?
