Recently I was given a small sailboat that in some ways is very similar to a Sunfish. On the sail is a graphic of a Black Panther and on the hull is the word Panther. The previous owner, who inherited this boat from a relative, does not have any information about it. I've searched the web and have been unable to locate any information about it. The boat requires some work to make it seaworthy and will need to purchase some parts and supplies for it. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Phil Skidown92@hotmail.com

Is there a hull identification number of twelve digits on the transom? Usually on the starboard upper transom area.

Try this site

You may want to check out www.boatshow.com/SailboatIndex.html. You may get lucky and recognize your boat. They are categorized by length. Good luck.

I just did a search on Panther sailboats

and came up with something called a Lockley Newport Panther also called a Scat, but that's all there was...try to find some serial numbers on that puppy.

Panther Scat

I believe the Panther Scat that Lauraine found is a sort of small hydroplane that you lie on, so that wouldn't be it. A picture of it is in the Popular Mechanics mag way back when. If there is an identification number on it, then there are web sites that list what companies the abreviations represent. I couldn't find any good leads. If its old enough, there may be no ID on it.
