Need help in identifying a sailboat by photo

My family is thinking of buying a sailboat for short 3-4 days trips by sea along the Pacific coast of Russia. 25 feet seems quite suitable. One of the sellers is offering a 25 feet cruiser with an inboard diesel engine. He says it is a 1990 25' Yamaha that came from Japan. I attached a photo of the cruiser to this message. However, I am neither sure it is Yamaha, nor that it was built in 1990 due to its shape that looks most typical of 1965-1970's to me. Can someone help me identify the make and the model. I would really appreciate any assistance. What is the HIN?

If you could supply the Hull Id Number, then you can track down who made it and when. It is required by law to be on the transom somewhere. It usually is along the water line on the starboard side somewhere. A HIN number is just like a VIN number on the dash and under windshield of car or truck. It will tell you the whole build history of the vessel. You will need to do some decoding of what certain numbers and what certain letters mean, but for starters. The last 2 numbers will be the year.

HIN

Thank you very much everyone who found some time to write the replies. HIN is not available. When sailboats come to Russia, for some reason HIN's are usually taken off. It is normal to sell 1978 Y25 Yamaha as if it is 1992. There are not much people who know exactly the hulls details in my city. Today there are only 5-6 sailboats of 20-25 feet long available for sale in the whole region with the population of 2 million people! Powerboats are MUCH MORE popular. So I walked around the 5 sailboats, all Yamahas, as the dealer said, and not sure which would be best - 1992 Y25 (which is most likely a 1980 Y25), 1990 Y25 (the one I asked about, not sure about its real year) or Y22 (no year, the dealer does not know either).

Yamaha Year

It sure looks like one from what I recall at boat shows, even if it does look older than a 90's. One way to back into it might be to get the serial number of the engine which I think is Yanmar and then find out when it was manufactured. It should be within a year or two unless the engine was replaced. Sounds like a fun voyage! Good luck, Rick D.

Good idea

Engine serial number - is a very good idea! Thanks a lot! Is there a website where I could check the year of the engine? Andrei.

you are right!

You are right. That is why I want to know what exactly boat I am going to buy (or not to buy). I wanted to ask you "do you know how good is the Y-25 sailboat built in 1990?" but I am not sure it is the 1990 Y-25. So first of all I am trying to identify the boat, before asking the right questions.

I don't think it is

a Ymaha 25. Look carefully at the windows on a Yamaha 25 and they don't look like the boat in question. Also, it appears the mystery boat has stanchions mounted on top of the cabin top which is not the design of the Yamaha 25, Check the link to see a Yamaha 25: http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/F81339/

Now I'm answering my own posts!

This is not a Reinell 25. I found one in a search after my last post. http://www.northcoastsail.com/

I does actually look like

Reinell 25. That is why I was thinking the boat I was looking at came from the 70's.

You have got a good memory! I could not remember where I might have seen the similar boat (I mean Reinell).

Russia?

711. You are posting from Russia? wow. Where do you sail and what are you sailing. I do have a good memory for those types of boats fromt he 70's. That is when I first began to dream about owning a cruising sailboat and I spent endless hours puring over what was available and what was affordable to me. At that time I was only making about 8k a year.

Russia

I live in the city of Vladivostok. It is the South-East of Russia, the coast of the Sea of Japan. Islands and bays around the area are very beautiful. White sand beaches, nice lagoons are reachable by any kind of boat. http://shamora.info/up/pearl/IMG_8984.jpg http://shamora.info/up/pearl/0_as.jpg http://shamora.info/up/pearl/Vityz.jpg http://shamora.info/up/pearl/2_12.jpg http://shamora.info/up/pearl/0_04.jpg http://shamora.info/up/pearl/006.jpg The most popular sailboat here is Conrad 25. Used Yamahas sometimes come from Japan. However, in general, sailboats are not even close as much popular as the power boats.
