Even if it cleaned up nice there is no rigging/sails. Major $$ involved.
And a trailer would cost you another $1500. A decent outboard another $1500. But...I have a friend who took an old V21, removed the keel, sold all of the sailing hardware, used that money to buy an electric trolling motor and a trailer and he uses the boat as a weekend camper/fishing boat with his family. They enjoy the heck out of it. They puts around Smith Mountain Lake and ghunkhole in the coves at night. That boat could still be a lot of fun for the right person.

Man, you advertise the boat at just what it is, and some kid will come and take it. Call it whatever you want. If this gang has trouble with it, some kid will never figure it out anyway.

That thing looks ready for the chainsaw right where it is.

Whatever it is, it would take several thousand bucks to make it sail-able, and you could buy one ready to go today for less. Giving it to someone would be a dis-service to them. Tell them to spend the money they are going to spend anyway on a boat that can sail now.

The world has enough old crappy boats sitting around. It does not need that one.

Keep in mind that with just a motor, it would still be a boat- if not a sailboat. At least it would get it out of the yard and you could put in the pink flamingos.

Anh! Maybe. If the mast and boom are laying in the grass and the keel is in decent shape, then a good pressure wash and $300 worth of used sails... a weekend rebuilding some of the rotten wood. My Mac V22 (see above) looked like that when I found it. Paid $800 but it came with a serviceable trailer and a set of 5 decent sails. The galley had a hornets nest in it. The floatation foam had been home to a family of rats. Tore it all out over a long weekend and 4 sheet of plywood later...

Still the problem with the title and registering. In Texas, that would be a killer, IF it could be done at all, which is doubtful

I don't know anything about TX titles. I looked into the rules for Virginia about a year ago. Here you have to send a letter to the last know address associated with the registration numbers (if the numbers exist) our Department of Game and Inland Fisheries will give you that info... and you need to put a notice in the classified papers in the region where the boat was abandoned. State your intention to obtain an abandoned boat title with a description, HIN and registration numbers and info on how the previous owner can make contact. Wait 4 weeks and if no one claims the boat, you can apply for a title. DGIF will want you to show proof that you tried to contact the previous owner.
