Macgregor Venture 22 in my frontyard on a trailer
Hello everybody I am new to this forum. I was hoping someone could tell me where I can find upgrade replacement side windows or ports for a MacGregor Venture 22. They are about 31.5" X 4.5". I have already done some online searching but can't find anything although I have seen pics of Venture 22s that have had those windows replaced with something that looks much better than the original. Thanks in advance for any help you all can provide on this.

I just duplicated the windows with smoked lexan, reusing the original frames but with new weatherstripping. To my knowledge there isn't anything available premade. You could just make oversize pieces that you could glue on a la the later V25 if you wanted to.

I replaced mine on my V25.took the old ones to a glass shop and had then cut some new lexan for me.also picked up some butyl tape so I could rebed the frames to the fiberglass, had to fine tune the lexan but everythng went tickaty boo.

Ya, I re-furbed a Venture 2-24 and what I did was cut two sheets of lexan to the shape of the windows and striped out the old windows aluminum and all screwed them down with 316 S.S button heads with brass acorn nuts inside. Screw about every 3 " or so. And put good poly caulk under the window. This set-up gives you a much bigger view from the cabin, you go from about 4" to 6" high window.

I did the same thing, except for the weather stripping.. I couldn't find a replacement and the old ones were hard as a rock so I just filled the frames up with a clear silicone caulk, put the window in and screwed the frames back together. So far so good!

Re: Mac 22 Windows

not sure why someone would use lexan/polycarbonate instead of plexiglas/acrylic for anything on a boat...
the lexan scratches easier, it discolors over time (is NOT as UV stabile) and it cant be re-polished to like new condition when it starts to degrade... but it will take a severe, acute impact.... but its more expensive.

Plexiglas and Lexan are both brand names and are about twice the price of buying the product as acrylic and polycarbonate with another brand name attached....

the plexiglas will re-polish to like new if it scratches, but its way more resistant to scratching to start with. (better clarity), it does not discolor over time (more UV stabile than polycarbonate/lexan), its a lot cheaper and it's about 20 times stronger than glass.

compact discs are made out of lexan, that's why they scratch so easy...
helicopter globes and windows are made out of plexiglas, as are the windows in submarines....
but I suppose if your looking for bullet proof, then lexan would be the better choice. plexiglas will withstand sharp impacts about 20 times better than glass, and it will stand up to the same shear pressures as lexan, OTHER THAN, a sharp acute impact like a hammer or a bullet... plexi is stronger than glass but lexan will shed bullets better, but only in the thicker windows. for the normal wind and wave action we may ever encounter on our boats, acrylic/plexiglas is a better option.

It would great to see photos of what you did. Can't get my over complicated V224 windows to stop leaking - its my Number1 project this spring. Again.

I'm sold on the plexi. Thanks.
