They need to be patterned rather than measured because the shapes are not regular. For example, look at the fit at the corner of the port seat back and the one attached to the galley cabinet. The port seat back is canted out at the top by somewhere around 10°. That means the outboard end of the galley seat back must be at the same angle or you'll end up with an unsightly gap. These little angles are all over the place. It's boats.
