Lowest common denominator

I guess you are right saildog.
Next time I send one of my teams into combat I'll try and keep that in mind. Just hope the enemy does too.

Seriously: I don't teach to the LCD, I don't like talking to the LCD, I don't think any of us are aspiring to be the LCD.
Sooooo, instead of talking to the LCD I choose to state the facts and generate conversation so that those who want to learn can.

Lets set a higher standard and EXPECT that people will not do something dumb. If there is one thing my military experience has taught me it is that people will live up to your expectations. If you expect them to be the LCD then that is what they will be. And what a boring site this would be when we get to that state.

Love ya man;)

I don't like teaching or talking to the LCD... but sometimes it is what you have to do, especially on an internet forum where people might miss the detailed explanation and end up following what would be bad advice with out the full context and preparations required for using it.

Also, I don't know about you, but I have very little control over the condition of the shorepower plug at my marina. They do maintenance and such on their schedule, and I have to accommodate their equipment and how good it is. I keep the stuff on my boat in as good a shape as possible to reduce the amount of "overhead" but that isn't usually the limit.

And that is why..

I look at what the other folks are posting and frame my comments.

Clearly when they start talking impedance vs resistance in an AC circuit they are not uninformed about AC. Now if I was a reasonably bright person who did not know diddly about AC and I read that post I'd understand right away that I was ignorant. If I was a reasonably dumb person (LCD) it would not matter what was posted as it has been my experience that they go out and do what they want no mater what you say.

So why would I want to talk to the LCD when they will not even listen anyway?

And with that I apologize to all of you for high jacking the post.

See you on the waters:D

In all things electrical there is Ohms law, Murphy's law and Darwin's rules. Now I believe that God watches out for fools and small children most of the time but sometimes those fools are very clever and manage to outwit even God and kill themselves.

Sure was. I know you have a 30 amp circuit but you can't run it wide open.

Yoo should run another 30 amp service into the boat with that load.

Joe, I guess I have some other questions. Being just a little north of where you are I can't help but wonder why you needed so much heat on the boat last week. Perhaps another type of heater would serve you better. The yield from each heater is about 4500 BTU's/per hour and that is easy from a portable propane heater.
The weather, as it was last week, called for a couple of more layers but it hasn't been cold.

Thanks

I hope someone besides myself has learned from my mistake. I'm grateful nothing bad happenbed here. I wasn't aware of things like loss of power at the post, loose power cord connections, etc and the effect they can have on things. I also wasn't aware about the 80% guideline when it comes to total amps. Had I known I would have never used two 1500 watt heaters along with the other devises all at the same time. In doing my calculations I was running approximately 29 amps at peak for several hours. Another mistake I made was to believe that the circuit breakers would trip if there was a problem.

I have already made my repairs. A new Marinco 30A power cord was purchased and a new Marinco power inlet have been installed. I checked all wires at the inlet side and the panel side and ended up stipping the inlet side back since there was some corrosion there. The shore power cord connection to the inlet side is very snug but the connection to the power post side is a bit loose. That's a marina issue since they own that and I will be talking to the owner soon. Everything else appears to be OK.

Thanks for helping to further the education.
