Good day to all of you,

I need to replace the gooseneck mount on my mast that was sheared off in an accident with a UPS truck! I have NOT found any help in the achieves.

I have a Z190 mast and have been told by RigRite that I have a FranceSpar Boom; there are NO markings on it. Can anyone help me confirm the boom and help me locate the correct replacement part? RigRite referred to part #NG1-11N but seemed unsure of results?????

Measurements below are in inches although they are NOT exact since I suspect metric.
Boom length WITHOUT fittings is roughly 110 1/2"
Gooseneck toggle on boom: length 3 3/4", height 1 1/2" depth 1 3/16"
Diameter in hole in gooseneck toggle roughly 1/2"
Mast/gooseneck fitting: height 5", width 2 1/16" (this is the part I need to replace.)

I have attached photos for your review.

I appreciate your continued help,
Joelle DuPont

Do ya have the pin and the two "chunks that were attached to the plate on the mast?? A good machine shop could weld that back together or could make something pretty quickly that would work fine..basically two triangular blocks of aluminum with a hole bored close to one of the points of the triangle to take the vertical pin. The other side of the triangle would be welded to the plate on the mast..It ends up looking like this :

Hunter customer service may be able to give you a lead on where to get a replacement mast side fitting if ya want to go that way.. Good luck..

You sure you have a Z-190 mast? It does look like a Z-Spar but dont have the whole mast pictured. According to Brad's site 3 masts were used. The France spar was used on '87 H23s. Why a Francespar boom with a Z-190 mast? The boom you have definitely isn't a Z-Spar like mine.

Rig-rite does have replacement gooseneck parts for for the Z-190 mast that mates with the Z-160 boom casting. I just had to replace the gooseneck on my Z-190 and I got a replacement kit from them for my original Z-Spar gooseneck. It wasn't the original style but the newer style so new holes had to be drilled for rivets. The part number is Z-1478C for the bracket and Z-1034 for the toggle. Looks like you just need the bracket as you have the toggle on there and it just might mate with the new style replacement bracket. It does not look like the Z-1034 toggle would mate with the Francespar boom end casting without an adaptor. They might have an adapter or toggle to mate it to the new bracket or you could have something machined.

Whether you either get a replacement for the original or a new style bracket replacement kit you will need a Rivet tool for 1/4 inch rivets which can be gotten from jay-cee sales & rivet Inc. A cheap one for about $60 or the delux for $130. You wont find them at you local tool store.

Good luck

Additional info from owner

The mast is deffinitely a ZSpar mast, original labels are attached and I purchased a new Mast Foot for a Z190 this spring which fits (US Spars part #1171).

I don't have the "chunks" that sheared off from the mast but I do have the pin. The UPS truck ran into the mast while it was lashed to the boat on its trailer! The boom was stored inside the boat at the time so no damage to it or the original pin.

The UPS driver suggested a local metal shop they use to fix/rebuild the existing part. My question is: will a welded/rebuilt aluminum mount withstand the stresses of the boom? The original brackets appear to be CAST.

I've already checked with Hunter and they could not give me the info I needed to replace the gosseneck mount for the mast.

With continued appreciation for your thoughts.

You may want to try Hunter Marine and see if they can give you some insight.

Seco South, Fl. did a lot of their rigging, so they may also be able to assist you.

The part you need that is broken is the bracket. The bracket for the Z-190 mast is #4063 (from US Spar) or Z-1478C (from Rig- Rite). I dont know why the different part numbers as they appear to be the same. The problem is the toggles they carry for these are for the Z-Spar booms, not for France spar booms. Good luck finding that hybrid arrangement.

The good news is that the current style bracket uses a bolt (5/16") through the toggle similar to yours except your hole is larger (1/2") and the toggle cross section is much thicker in width. You probably could use a bushing in the hole and machine away some material of that thick toggle for horizontal and maybe vertical clearance.

Alternatively you could use the Z-Spar toggle and use spacers and bushings at the boom casting end as to make up for the width problem.

Best of luck
