I'm buying a 1988 Cat 30, and the emergency tiller handle is missing. Does anyone have one to sell or know where i can get one? Thanks!

Its easy to make

The emergency tiller is nothing more than a shaft extension made of a 3 foot section of pipe. One end is slotted to fit oveer the bolt on the top of your rudder shaft. The other end has a hole drilled to accept a short lenth of rod. the rod then becomes your new emergency tiller. Short of making one, I would try contacting a Catalina dealer and buying one from their parts department.

Different on my boat

My Cat 30 has wheel steering and the rudder shaft has an aluminum casting on top that has a cast-in hole for the emergency tiller handle (at the stern side of the cockpit). The emergency tiller handle is nothing more than a stainless steel tube that fits in that hole and is short enough to not hit the steering pedestal when used. You might have the emergency tiller handle in the boat and not recognized it as it is a simple thing.

emergency tiller

I have an 88 30' Cat, and made a tiller from a piece of chain link fence metal pole bought at Home Depot. It's about 1 1/4' diameter and galvanized against rusting and very inexpensive. All you need to do is cut to length, cut two notches in one end to fit the rudder head and drill a hole in the top to take a handle. I use a very large screw driver. The cost is minimal, and it works fine for me. Good sailing Ron b
