I recently purchased an 82 oday in good condition but have learned that rudder is retro fit from another boat design and that rudder is to short. Does any one have dimensions for 82, length, width height etc
thanks, dennyg

Oday 222 Dighton, Ma.
I have been told that the designer, C. Raymond Hunt Associates had turned in all the specs to these boats to the Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic CT. years ago and that copies can be had for a fee. So if all else fails, you can check on this. With that said, a fellow down in Texas built a rudder for his O'Day 25 a couple of years ago and did an excellent job. Hopefully he will chime in if he sees your thread. The best of luck to you guys.

if you dig deeper in this site you will find a diagram of an Oday 23 rudder with all dimensions. look in the BOAT INFO/23/MODIFICATIONS
remember... the 23..25...26 are almost the same, and a lot of the ifo is revelant to each length. I understand that the older rudders were straight on the lead edge from top to bottom and the newer ones went under the transmon somewhat. You will see this in the picture.

Lake Keowee Sailor is correct. There were at least two designs. And lastly there was a kick up design that was apparently never put into production.

Some where in archives is company that used to make the kick up design, but it is very pricey.

The balance rudder was designed to solve the weather helm of early 25's. The kick up was designed to solve the rudder grounding before keel problem.

Someone made a rudder and posted. Should be in archives.

In meantime just listen:
