Need Boom Vang Help.......................

Just opened the box containing my new boom vang. The only problem there is no reference to how far the "vang plate" is positioned on the bottom of the boom from the mast. This boat never had a vang, so there are no holes to use as a ref. Anyone who has the factory vang installed, please send me the measurements. Fair winds, Jim 1974 O'Day-22 (Dream Maker)

Hi Jim: My '79 has a boom vang and I can get you measurements when I am on the boat next (which will be next week) so if you can wait that long,,,, Otherwise, perhaps someone else can provide you the magic number in the mean time. Does you mast have a hoop ring on it to connect the vang to? Mine has a large metal ring that is bolted to either side of the mast and rotates somewhate around the bolt points. The vang is attached to the bolt ring, and the vang's tackle is located at the boom, not the mast. That way I can reach it from the cockpit. The vang connects to a "y" shaped tang rivited to the boom around 33" to 36" from the boom, but I will confirm later this week. Vangs are nice! I love mine and use it regularly when running.
