Hi Folks

I am a newbie on this site and looking for any help from the mor experienced. With the sailing season coming up really fast hear in the East Coast I making up my wish list. On top of the list is a Stainless Steel BBQ for my 25.5 Hunter that I recently purchased.
It does not currently have one and wondering what to look for. We have an boat show this weekend in town and hopefully have a chance to maybe strike a deal.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We will usually have 2 couples onboard to feed if that helps.

Cheers

Paul

We have a kuuma propane bbq similar to the rectangular magma. They seem to burn a lot hotter than the big bbq at home, or maybe it's just that the grills are closer to the flame. I also have to stand on the seat to use it, which makes things a bit tippy on our little boat. Yours will be a bit more stable, I'm sure.

Magma is highly rated - I like mine. And it has never blown out like my neighbor's Kuuma.

I had 3 boats and 3 Magma propane grills. Yes charcoal would be nice but propane is dependable. For a little wood flavor I soak some Jack Daniels wood chips in water and throw that in the grill.

I use a small round Magma also, I use propane as charcoal can blow out embers on boat. Do not store propane bottles in boat. keep on rail....Dale

You will also want to check your marina rules. most do not allow open flames while at the slip.
With that said the only place you could use it is at anchor. they are compleatly useless under sail with any wind blowing and boat heeling.
I'm thinking that you might want to assess the numberof times a year you might be able to use it against the cost.

I own the round magma's both propane, and recommend the rectangular types (force10, or whatever brand). the have a more even flame, hold more and store easier.

but are more expensive.

in a strong wind I can only cook on high, and with the lid off to the windward side. no experience with the force 10's (other than eating from them).

Also check Craigslist. I found several never used or used once or twice for a fraction of the cost of a new one plus the mount.

With all the interest in tailgating, there are tons of new tabletop bbqs and stoves available if you don't require a picture of a boat on the package.

I've had a round Magma for over 15 years and have had zero problems. Like someone said before, It's not charcoal, but it is convenient. I added some lava rocks to distribute heat better. I never tried the soaking wood chips in Jack Daniels, but I can vouch that soaking the cook & guests in Jack Daniels makes everything taste better.

Thanks for all the great info. There is a Magma dealer in Halifax I will check with. Maybe they will have them on sale this weekend at the boat show.

Cheers
