We (a couple guys without their spouses, ages 40 & 46) are planning on leaving Titusville in mid-Feb, across Okeechobee, thru Ft. Jefferson, and on to Cuba, on a recently refurbished 1981 Hunter 33 Cherubini. Intended stops at Ft. Myers/Naples, 10,000 islands (south of Marco), Tortugas, & Marina Hemmingway. Nothing too fancy, no schedule nor rush, should take around 1 month, paying very close attention to weather & safety. Both have adequate blue water and sailing experience. We are planning on having a total of 3 onboard for the trip. We intend to proceed on to Isla Mujeres, by March sometime. If anyone's (sailor) interested in sharing the sailing and minimal expenses on any leg, please get in touch. Thanks Bob Pullen rtpullen2000@yahoo.com

What happened to the first one?

Just kidding. Your header doesnt fit with what you are looking for. You are looking for another crew member for the trip. Not another crew. It sounds like you lost the first crew. I just had to respond. Thanks for the laugh! Be safe and enjoy. Keep it up, Ctskip

Cuba

Hey sounds like a great time . I also have a 33 1979 model. The previous owner took it to Cuba back in 2000. I have had it to the Dry Tortugas . What about the U.S. restrictions on Cuba now? I hear they dont look the other way anymore and can actually take your vessel assuming you guys are american. Good luck

thanks

thanks - corrected. I am a registered alien (green card holder), have sailed to and from Cuba without a problem, and we have aspirations that the boat will not be coming back to the US for at least a couple years, so no need to fear big brother and his cowboy lap puppet, for now. thanks for the concern, all the same. happy sailing Bob

I should have mentioned...

I did have the boat completely inspected prior to the purchase. Had a rigging surveyor up the mast twice with a magnifying lens. He was surprised that the only thing he could find fault was cracked swage on the backstay (currently being addressed/repaired/replaced), but then again the previous owners were both on the anal side of preventive maintenance (thank god and his cohorts for that). The rest of the rig is in excellent shape. As for safety, the new Yanmar 20 has less than 100 hrs, just recently maintained, and ticks like a clock, runs very cool. The keel was pulled and all bolts replaced with larger s/s. Shaft pulled, made true. New s/s fuel tank and water tank added. New excellent 3 blade prop added by Prop shop, new main, new roller furler, new anchor line & halyards & sheets & tackle. New 2nd Radio (old one still working great, aboard). New Epirb. 2 new Garmin GPS with depth sounder & new laptop with Nobeltec Visual Nav software (tested and integrated with the garmin on the binnacle). Still got the charts (in waterproof tube with parallel's & compass). No lazyboy recliner nor offshore 110 usage. New bottom paint and barrier paint. Currently in a slip in the yard in titusville, Fl. where I have been getting this work completed. can't think of much more, other than I have sailed since I was 14 (I'm 46), and was born in Rio de Janeiro. My Dad (Guy Pullen) was the South American Star Class champion in 1953, a title which he held & defended for several years (over a decade). Nothing of that seems to have rubbed off on me -- I don't enjoy racing. Hope someone has the time and interest for some great sailing. thanks again for the replies Bob

Wish I could..

Wish I could join you. I did the trip to Cuba last year except we crossed from Marathon to Varadero then to Marina Hemingway then on to Isla Mujeres. Be careful going into Hemingway as some of the red bouys are missing. While we were there about 6 boats went onto the reef going in. My sailing buddy who went with me may be interested. I'll pass along your post to him. Paul
