Looking for some advice on locking set screws in my fiberglass stern tube. This is for the Cutless Bearing (dimpled). Since the the threads are fiberglass, I'm concerned that Lock-tite will clog the threads and create problem the next time I have to replace. I have a product called Vibra-Tite VC-3 and wondering if anyone knows if this might be appropriate or has experience with the product? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance...

Locktite blue is the way to go. Never red. RED is not removable.

Put a second one after the first. If the allen screw is too long you'll have to get shorter ones. Never paint over the head.

Thanks. I would only consider blue, but my concern is with the fiberglass threads. Unfortunately I don't have the depth for two set screws.....

Fiber glass is a lot softer than metal.

Is it possible to replace the stern tube with bronze or SS? Have a look at Banateau.

Alternatively, is it possible to put a All SS hose clamp to cover the screw head? Need to prevent it from falling out and loose grip on the dimple!

If you clean it well the blue Loctite will work fine as it also makes a great thread sealant

Thanks. The threads are clean as its a new boat and the factory used Red Locktite in the dimples, nothing on the threads. I'm more concerned with residual Locktite in the threads in the future. As someone mentioned, the threads are relatively soft compared to metal, so not sure I will be able to clean without ruining. The problem with replicating using the dimples is that one of the screw holes is facing down making gravity the enemy.

I suppose if I have a problem the next time I can epoxy thread barrels in, but was hoping someone had experience with FG threads. Thanks for all suggestions so far!
