Hello, I bought a cruising chute for my legend 23.5 (complete with bag and dowsing sock) This is my first chute and still has do do the rigging. The only thing that I made is a homemade attachment to the pulpit to keep the tack forward. I like to keep things simple, so would it be possible to use the jib halyard instead of setting up another halyard. Since the halyard comes out from below the forestay I was a bit concerned about chafing, so I was going to put a peice of plastic pipe around the top of the forestay and a swivel on the halyard. For the sheets, I was considering putting ratchet-blocks on the u-bolts on the sides of the boat near the stern cleats. Do you think this contraption works? Any ideas welcome. Thanks Nicky

I have one on my Capri 22

I have snatch blocks for the sheets but I saw a capri with a block attached to a " stand up base" page 1197 west marine catalog to give you an idea. Bolts to the boat and spring holds it up. I wonder if you can you jib halyard as it is if you do not jibe. But I have a spinnaker halyard and like the option to jibe. In the long run a spinnaker halyard is probally better. You should enjoy your new sail. It is a lot less work than a standard spinnaker and really helps out in light air.

If you anticipate using the chute, you can set it up at the dock,

if you have the halyard available for it ahead of time. Makes it much easier than waiting until you are out on the water. Especially if soloing it. I have used a pad eye and it works fine in low wind. When the wind pipes up the added friction works against you when sheeting in. Frank

Hello folks!

Thanks for the advice and encouragement. Actually, it did not occur to me to do an external halyard.(jib&main halyards run inside the mast)I think an external halyard would be easier to install and probably more convenient. Nicky
