I am considering installing stern winches on my Hunter 340. There is a spot marked out aft of the arch. They will work OK for my cruising spinaker however try as I may I cannot route the jib sheets aft without turning the sheets several times. Has anyone attempted this? Any ideas out there. Thanks!

Reefing

Occassionally on my 340 when I'm on a port tack and want to reef, I'll take the starboard jib sheet around the base of the winch on the cabin roof back to the starboard spinnaker winch. This takes some of the pressure and bite out of the jib sheet stop. The same can be done on the port side if one needs to reef using the port cabin winch. Not great, but it can be done. I don't routinely run it back there however.

Routing Jib Sheets Hunter 340

After becoming fed up with the standard jib sheet stoppers I led my sheets aft to the optional winches. Simply installed a fairlead to the outboard side of the arch & a turning block to the stern pulpit on both sides. Led the sheets through the fairleads & blocks to the winches. Works great, did not have to replace the sheets & frees up the halyard winches.

Hey Darcy

With your jib sheeting method, do you still use your genoa tracks? and did you use only one fairlead and is it mounted right on the arch at the base? I would like to give this a try on my H310, as I would like to add a 135% genoa. I am concerned about the pull on the stern pulpit with the turning block though. I have snatch blocks on the stern pulpit that I use for my asym. spinnarker and only use it in 10 kts. or less wind. How much pressure or force is there on those blocks? Thanks. Routing Jib Sheets

Steve. Yes I am still using the genoa tracks. I was able to place the fairlead on the arch in a manner to avoid friction on the arch. The blocks used where those supplied with the optional spinnaker package & there appears to be no problem with the pulpit handling the load. Bearing in mind the size of the jib on the 340. The only item I had to purchase were the fairleads. Just glad I ordered the spinnaker option with the boat.
