Hello all, I'm stuck! I need a water pump - coolant circulating pump, Universal M25 (Kubota D850) - part numbers: Universal 300203 (Kubota 15531-7303-0). First day of vacation, ready to set sail from Westport Harbor on the South coast of Massachusetts; charging batteries and heard a tinkling kind of sound in the engine bay. Opened the cover and saw the water pump pulley moving +/- 1" left and right, and it was occasionally spraying a ball bearing out, like a popcorn popper. The seal held - no coolant leak! I could probably use a rebuild kit, but would prefer a complete pump in the name of expeditiousness. If anyone in the area can help I would be forever in your debt. My yard doesn't have one, nor does West Marine. There's a local Kubota dealer who opens on Monday. Thanks,

Doubt that Kubota will have a marine pump.

JV: I doubt that Kubota will have a marine pump. That is one of the items that is usually different between the tractor and the marine engines. I suggest that you find a Universal dealer in your area. I would think that they will have one on the shelf. Be sure you get a gasket too. Don't forget to check out your hoses and clamps. It is a good time to replace them to prevent any other problems.

No, it's the Kubota pump...

Steve, Thanks, but you're incorrect - the pump I need it shte coolant circulating pump that's mounted on the front of the engine, and in tractors circulates the coolant through the radiator. Note that I put the Kubota part number in my original post. jv

I Have That Motor

I just pulled the raw water pump today, but you describe the belt-driven fresh water pump, which is not a marinized part. You should be able to get it at the Kubota dealer. I'd just walk in with it Monday morning & set it on the counter. You should be outta there in five minutes. Until then, pull the pump & do a little Sunday maintenance until you're ready to go @ noon on Monday, all the while counting your blessings that this means a slightly shortened trip rather than an aborted trip that possibly would have left you with no engine (and after a short while, no electrics) at a very inconvenient time. ah Yes!

You are correct, I am incorrect! Hopefully you will have one in the next couple of days to proceed on your vacation. Good luck!

Water Pump

Sorry to hear about your pump problems, my mechanic said that it is very rare for the FWP to go bad on these engines. There are two places that should stock the part you need. The first is Hansen Marine in Marblehead, MA and the other is Torresen Marine in Muskegon, MI. I have left you the link to Hansen Marine, and Torresen Marine can be reached at (231) 759-8596. Do not forget a new gasket, part #300204. Good luck.

Happy ending

Well, here's the conclusion of the story. Sunday we just sat it out, since everything was closed. Monday bright and early started the search of the local Kubota dealers by phone. There's a dealer locator on the Kubota site. I held the marine dealers in reserve, since the closest one is about a 200 mile round trip - Hansen in Marblehead, MA, going the long way around on Rt. 128, because of the Big Dig troubles. Of the four Kubota dealers close-by, one in West Wareham, about 22 miles away, had one in stock. Got it for $101. One who didn't have it listed it for about $75, reminiscent of the old pork chop joke. We drove to get teh available one, plus a new gasket for $1. extra. Compare that with $275 plus $3 from Torrensen. Incidentally, the Kubota dealer in Westport didn't have it but said he could get it in a day. Installed in about 10 minutes. Took longer to burp the air bubble out of the cooling curcuit. Cast off at about noon for Tarpaulin Cove, and just returned yesterday from 6 days out. Highlight for the kids was seeing Eric Clapton's yacht in Edgartown, and actually exchanging waves as we passed in our dinghies (although his dinghy had a console and steering wheel and pilot). Lesson learned: 1. having the Kubota parts book (or excerpts thereof) really paid off in both money and availability. There are a lot more D850's in tractors than C36's, and a lot more Kubota parts outlets than for Universal. 2. the water pump has two of the very few bearings that are not lubricated via the engine lubricating system. Might be a good candidate for a spare (the "kit" would be tough to install without a press).
