well i placed an order from an U.S.supplier ,two hundred and some dollars for about 10 pounds worth of stuff and the shipping quoted was 271 bucks with ups.. the only option..can someone give me some info on a really good canadian suppliier for battens,mainsheet and jib hallyard rope with shackles,fiddle block with cam,shroud stays etc so i can avoid the huge shipping cost...thanx Doug

Also try Mason's Chandlry in Port Credit, Ontario.

They will do custom splicing etc. and can get whatever else you need. Good people and good work.

You may want to call or e-mail with everything you need.

I think Cajun Ropes that sells on ebay is from canada. I bought from them several years ago. I think "GDP.Canada " is their user name.

To Canadian addresses, we try to ship everything we can USPS. Tracking isn't as good, but there's no brokerage fee and the actual shipping costs are lower. UPS is outrageously high from the US to Canada.

Mr Herring nailed it. I've found that when ordering from the US, if the supplier used FedEx or UPS, the shipping costs were usually unreasonable, handling was rough, and on top of all that they tack on a flat $25 for "brokerage" even if the item is duty-free under NAFTA. Also, if you miss the deliveryman at your door, you usually have to drive to their depot to pick up.

I now insist on USPS & Canada Post when I order from the US. The rates are more reasonable, and they usually only charge $5 tops for brokerage, if required.

thanx guys..i was going to put an order through this site as i do want to support it as it is so supportive in information and i will check out the steveston site as well..this site doesn;t appear to have sail battens though..??..but yea i love this site..i order alot from the States for my snowmobile and they ship postal and its reasonable...thanx again for all the responses..
