Ill be having my boat hauled to San Francisco bay in mid November and I'm looking for a rigger to re-commission it upon arrival.
Need a rigger in Alameda, Ca.

Alameda has a few: Svendsens in Alameda Marina, pretty good used to be better; Grand Marina Yard - don't use for rigging, they do a very good bottom job and other work, rigging s*cks; Nelson's Marine in the old NAS - good rigging, Hansens I believe
In Richmond: KKMI very good
In SF South Beach Harbor I think his name is Tim, very highly regarded.

I was planning on putting in at Grand Marina and staying mo to mo until I find a better spot. The rate is good on a slip. They recommended a local there but I like to check with people who have worked with them before I commit to the unknown.

Their local MAY, just may, be the guy who subcontracts out of the Grand Marina yard. I had extremely poor expereinceS with him. Capital S. Svend's is local to Grand and walkable, parking both ends, too. Hansen may come to your boat, but to lift the rig you'd have to go to Nelson's I think, don't know if he works in other folks' yards. Nelson's is across the island, good parking both ends, but not walkable to retrieve the car the first time! Think out the logistics, unless by then I could drive you back and forth!
KKMI has a great rep, further away by time, traffic and miles than Nelson's, probably not worth the effort, since I've heard "nice" things about all of the people at these yards. Depends on how "hands on" YOU are, too. Don't know.
So, you'll love the marina, have to go elsewhere to rig, but then that's be a one way trip: delivery to yard of choice, boat in H2O, motor to Grand.

I had KKMI recently replace my mast and all standing rigging. I was very happy with their job, and their price was competitive. I also dealt with Hansen rigging, which is near you. I think the guy seemed very competent, but since he doesn't have his own yard I decided to go with KKMI, which is quite a bit further away. As for marinas - Fortman, which is where we are, is right next to Grand, a little closer to the Bay and I think it's a little cheaper. It is well protected from the wind. Only "downside" if you want to call it that, is that it is not as modern as many other marinas, but the positive of this is that almost all the people there are very down-to-earth.

Don't worry, there are plenty of places to get you keel stuck in the mud in the SF bay. Welcome to the left coast!!!

Stay with Grand, you won't fall off the tilting docks and the power is wired properly, etc. OTOH, Fortman does have a rockin' yacht club, but it's only a dinghy or short car ride away...Smokin...
As long as I'm smokin' and not drinkin/ (too much) the tiltin' won't have me fallin' in. Although there is one guy at the yacht club here at Fortman who's cell phone company refuses to insure his phone anymore -- he's fallen in so many times and had so many claims! (But I'm not sure if the dock was rocking, or if he just thought it was cause of what he'd been drinking!) Any more ideas on riggers? Hansen hasn't returned my calls and Now I don't think I'm wanting to give him my business

Considering the rigger is charging me $500 here and a $1000 is the least expensive price I could get over the phone I thought maybe.........................
I hate to give business to people who don't think it important to return calls to potential future work. They always call back when their hungry. I talked to his girl she said she's given him the messages. Fawk em !

Yes, I agree, but that wasn't my question. If that one guy disses you, I wouldn't use him either, but have you tried the others I suggested before you ask for more sources? I also suggested Latitude which has just about every rigger in the bay area all the way to Napa for goodness sake. There really is nothing more I can do for you.
