Anyone have a recommendation on where to get a new exhaust riser for my Yanmar 3HM35? Prices seem to vary a lot from one supplier to another. Torrenson lists one for $55 and somewhere else had it for $480. Locally, they are $120 to $180. They seem to be the same part but I cannot tell from the listing. If you haven't had to replace an exhaust riser, I am told that you will eventually. Mine is 12 years old and it finally cracked. It plugged up a few years ago and I just cleaned it then. It looks like something that I can make out of pipe fittings but I am not sure if that is wise. It was explained to me that if these things fail, raw water gets into the engine cylinders and ruins it.

Probably not apples to apples.

Patrick: I doubt if you are comparing apples to apples in these prices. I was looking at the Yanmar manual and it appears that you elbow is similar if not the exact same item as on the 2GM and 3GM engine. There are a couple of parts here. 1. the exhaust manifold, manifold gasket, coupling and the actual elbow. I would guess that you are getting all these parts in the $480 quote. When I purchased mine, I got an elbow and a gasket only for around $100 +. You can take a look in the photo forum. I posted a few pictures of the entire assembly.

Patrick?

I replaced mine on my 3HM 3 years ago. The cost of the elbow (alone) was about $90 for the original 3HM Yanmar part. So $100+ sounds reasonable. I had the yard mechanic do it. It made a world of difference in performance and no longer emits a breath of smoke.
