Adler/Barbour

I installed the Adler/Barbour Coolmatic 55, Condensing Unit with the Adler/Barbour Evaporator, Series 50 O-Type. Condenser fits on the self in the port locker. Drill 2 holes for the piping connect the wires, and mount the evaporator. Make sure you have the batteries to run it. I put in 2 6V for the house bank with a 105amp alternator.

Mike, Thanks, I did look at that one, but did not know if it would fit. I have two Batteries now, so you added another one and changed the alternator for a high output one?

another refrigeration option

I recently installed an Isotherm refrigerator in my 86 C-30. It runs on DC only but there's really no reason for AC/DC if you have a battery charger to keep your batteries topped off at the pier. The installation was fairly easy. I put it where the three drawers are on the port side of the companion way. Had to remove the drawers and enlarge the opening a bit with a dremel tool. Whole job, including wiring took less than two hours. The fridge keeps drinks real cold & holds four ice trays. My boats only about two miles from the house so I spend lots of evenings there. It's really nice not having to lug ice down to the harbor every few days. I did lose the storage are of the three drawers but my next project is to remove the old alcohol stove w/oven, build drawers in it's place with a two burner stove top above it. But that's for another day. Good luck, Ron

Charging

Yes I added a good starting battery and a high output alternator. If you are going to go this route make sure your engine has the upgraded alternator bracket. Mine didn't and it cracked the gear cover.

same as mike

I installed the same unit as Mike, though from England it is called a Waeco, and also installed two more batteries to handle it. It is great to have ice in those boat drinks. I also agree that AC is not necessary.
