I have a "81, 27' Hunter. I need to move my electrical panel. The original one is so low in the boat that it does not seem to make sense because if the cabin floods (and it has), the panel will flood too.

I want to put it higher in the cabin. has anyone done this and if so where did you put. I would love some ideas and pictures if you have any.

I have been toying wih the idea of putting it next to the pilot birth. Bu I need some inspiration.

Thanks,

Manny

I keep planning on moving mine also, but I never seem to get around to it. My thought is the best place to relocate it is above the chart table - fill the space between the table and the bottom of the cabin liner. Mine being down low doesn't bother me too much, except the dogs sometimes kick the switches when jumping up to the quarter berth. As an interim fix I made a small teak "eyebrow" above the panel that protrudes further than the switches, and it has helped considerably.

Another fix is to mount switches in a panel attached to the inner liner next to the Nav table. This will make opperating light,ect.,ect. a lot easier. Install the switches after the breakers to continue thier protection. also you can cover the main panel with a plastic cover with finger slots to protect against unwanted movement (dogs, children). Water on the beaker panel is going to be my last worry if it is that deep.
