Has anyone replace their strut on their hunter? I need to find a quick source to replace mine while I am in the yard... FYI, there is a basic design problem with struts - putting zincs on your shaft does not save your strut.... your strut does not come in contact with your shaft so the electic current in the water damages the strut... I will be keeping zincs on my "new" strut in the future.... Would appreciate any info on a ready source of struts for hunters. Thanks

Why is this happening..How to protect

Why is the strut suffering from electrolysis? Mine appears pitted this year, but doesn't need replacing yet, but why. I mean, I know why, but hey as a boat owner of a 2 year old 380 I gotta ask WHY. Why is there no zinc to replace here? What do we do to provent damage, or any further damage? Anyone actually talked to Hunter about this? There is no way I can figure to protect this piece since there are no zincs to replace. Looking for answers. Thanks Bob Knott H380

??

I replaced my cutlas bearing a few years back on my '86 28.5 but didn't notice extrordinary galvanic action on the strut. I paint my strut with antifouling. The antifouling has copper in it and I suppose that there may be a profilatic benefit. I wonder if it may be helpful to run a wire from the struct's inside of boat bolts to the engine which IS connected to the shaft. Jim McCue Any thoghts on this approach from others???

zincs for struts - by the way - mine looked fine 2

You can put zincs on struts but it requires drilling a hole to mount it... they are dish shaped ... that is what I plan on doing... Oh by the way... mine looked fine until I was tapping out the bearing and a part of the housing shattered ... it just crumbled before my eyes...

Try Dahmer Marine Hardware

I called Hunter about the strut on my 1978 H-27. They told me that it was available from Dahmer Marine Hardware,(104 Park Ave, Union Beach, NJ 07735 (735)-264-5799. They deliver COD. They were very helpful even though I did not need a new strut afterall. I was able to straighten myne with a pipe wrench. Call them and they will fax you the the specs. Hope this helps.

Mine too

I have the same problem on my '86. I have to replace my strut and realign everything, what a pain. There isn't or wasn't any Zink on the strut and the last time I hauled and replaced my Strut bearing, pieces of the strut flaked or chiped off. I understand you can buy them either thru Hunter of their suplier. Good luck. Craig
