O'Day 26 rudder
I was working on my rudder and left the boat with out securing the tiller ( Have my boat on a mooring ) Tide went out the rudder turning and hit the bottom on a low tide and floated away and now I need a new one:cry:
I have a 26 and your experience have me taking notice. My rudder is held on the gudegeons by just a clip pin. Humm, me thinks it is time to add a line to keep it attached to boat.
This event could happen while sailing and hitting something. So, I need to add line...
In addition to Rudy there are other sources for Rudders.

Ouch! the price has gone up over $400 since I first looked!
Maybe he is alternative. The later say '83 O'day 25 rudder is about the same as the 26. Earlier pre 80's are very different. Why? The rudder was redesigned by Hunt, N. A.
The plans for redesign of rudder are availabe at Mystic Seaport Achrives and for a fee can be had. So, maybe if you are the building kind, make your own Rudder. If you have not been to Mystic, check the web site for current hours of archives or ship plans department. They have extremely limited hours.
The archives of this site have several who have rebuilt rudders for our boats. And I believer at least on or two have made new rudders of their own.
Keep in mind that there is a slight difference in any 25 and 26 rudder. The 26 rudder does not extend below the keel like in the 25, but is even. But not so even that what happened to you cannot happen. Just reduces the number of hitting ground when keel does not.
