I went into my local chandlery today which is also a Mercury dealer. They were advertising a sale on engines which seemed, at a glance, pretty good. I'm not shopping, and I don't know if this sale goes out of town. But if you like Mercury engines and you are thinking of re-powering, you might want to check it out.

Small Merc outboards have a neat integrated twist shift and throttle. It sits in neutral. Twist one way, it engages in forward, and twist more it goes faster. Twist the other way, it goes into reverse. So much easier than having to reach down to the side of my Nissan to reach for the shift lever.

Would this twist throttle and gear shift be a problem when you change sitting sides? Sometime the right hand and left hand reacts differently. Each seems to have their own mind :)
