Need to replace the 3" x 4" x 21' mast from my 1974 MacGregor Venture 17. Anyone know a source for used? New quotes I've received so far are going to really hurt. Any advice would be appreciated.

Try Sailing Texas website. A 1970 venture 17 for sale in Mi for $1025.00.Lots of parts. Good luck
Ballenger spars can build you one, they're the cheapest I found when looking for a mast http://ballengerspars.com/ They quoted me $4000 for a 34' with all the bells and whistles. otherwise check with local boat yards and riggers to see what's out there. I've also seen masts, especially 20' to 30' on craigslist, ebay, and the "gear for sale" ads on this site. You need a comparable mast to the one that belongs on your boat, extrusion size/thickness, fractional or masthead, swept spreaders or straight. There's also a yard down in Florida that seems to specialize in used spars and spar material, sorry but I cant remember the name, can be found on ebay. I eventually found a suitable mast on ebay, payed $300 dollars for it and then spent twice as much to have it shipped, still cheap at that price.

I had to purchase a new mast for my Venture 17 some years back. Please don't ask me under what circumstances as it it is way too painful. A boat repair shop over around Lake Ray Hubbard in Dallas ordered the exact same mast from Dwyer. I am pretty sure they are still in business. He talked me into adding a set of spreaders which the original mast didn't have. I don't know how much difference they made but they looked great! Try Dwyer.
