So my barge needs to be secure. It seems that despite pier security, people may have gone on my boat when I wasn't there (something expensive has gone missing). I'm not going to bother reporting it because I can't blame anyone or prove anything if I did. So here's the deal. I need to secure the boat. In order to do that I need to install a deck hatch; 18x24. For whatever reason the searches I've done lead to hatches completely useless to me. What resources can you recommend? Need to do this on the cheap.

You can make a fiberglass hatch any size you want... the biggest problem will be making a hatch that you can LOCK. Most inspection ports don't lock.

There must be some method of closing the hole in your deck now! Is it simply a piece of canvas stretched over the deck? Or is it something solid and hinged? How do you keep it shut normally? Install a couple of padeyes and lash a 2x4 across the inside.

Its solid so I might just do the 2x4 thing you were talking about. Right now there isn't anything of value inside. That knife was $110 though. I'm a little pist about that one.
