Hello everyone...
Ok, first off... this has nothing to do with my last post about the shore power receptacle on the back of my boat. I'm planning on replacing that myself (as I have already done this once before I don't expect it to be much of a problem). What I'm hoping to get from this post is a name recommendation for someone who does electronics work on boats. I just bought a new Raymarine Wheelpilot X-5 because my old Raymarine 4000 is about to bite the dust. I was hoping to find a good person in the area to install this for me... but unfortunately the old guy have used in the past for this sort of thing left the area about a year ago and I don't have any new leads on good installers.
Now before I get blasted with a million "You should do it yourself" posts perhaps you should understand my situation and why even though I know I could do this myself I would prefer to pay someone else:
I'm a Navy psychologist currently deployed in Iraq (for the second time in three years I might add) and I'm due home in March. I plan on taking a nice long vacation to Catalina with the sailboat and the girlfriend when I get back and I would like this autopilot installed before that happens. I have a buddy looking after the boat while I'm away (hence the fact that I knew the shore power cable was burning out) and he can let someone on the boat to get the work done... but this is not something I want to deal with when I get back. I would prefer it just be done when I get home... and I'm willing to pay someone who is good to do the job. But I don't want to just choose anyone, as I want a quality job done... so this is why I'm looking for a name recommendation from someone here who has used their services and can vouch for them.
If anyone around here has used someone in the San Diego area to install electronics on their boat and can give a recommendation I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again to everyone who helped me figure out the shore power problem mentioned in my last post as the info I got there is going to make my life much easier when I get back home.
