Hello everyone...

Ok, first off... this has nothing to do with my last post about the shore power receptacle on the back of my boat. I'm planning on replacing that myself (as I have already done this once before I don't expect it to be much of a problem). What I'm hoping to get from this post is a name recommendation for someone who does electronics work on boats. I just bought a new Raymarine Wheelpilot X-5 because my old Raymarine 4000 is about to bite the dust. I was hoping to find a good person in the area to install this for me... but unfortunately the old guy have used in the past for this sort of thing left the area about a year ago and I don't have any new leads on good installers.

Now before I get blasted with a million "You should do it yourself" posts perhaps you should understand my situation and why even though I know I could do this myself I would prefer to pay someone else:

I'm a Navy psychologist currently deployed in Iraq (for the second time in three years I might add) and I'm due home in March. I plan on taking a nice long vacation to Catalina with the sailboat and the girlfriend when I get back and I would like this autopilot installed before that happens. I have a buddy looking after the boat while I'm away (hence the fact that I knew the shore power cable was burning out) and he can let someone on the boat to get the work done... but this is not something I want to deal with when I get back. I would prefer it just be done when I get home... and I'm willing to pay someone who is good to do the job. But I don't want to just choose anyone, as I want a quality job done... so this is why I'm looking for a name recommendation from someone here who has used their services and can vouch for them.

If anyone around here has used someone in the San Diego area to install electronics on their boat and can give a recommendation I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again to everyone who helped me figure out the shore power problem mentioned in my last post as the info I got there is going to make my life much easier when I get back home.

Take care,
-Levin

Can't Recomend Anyone

I would however like to offer to send a package to y'all over there if there is anything your unable to get. Be careful what you ask for though, when my wife was over there they asked for microwave popcorn and they got so much from everyone at the base that they were sick of it; not just eating it but smelling it, hearing it pop, and just the mention of popcorn.

I would really like to send somthing just to thank y'all for what your doing for the troops.

Levin, have your buddy look up Nathan Rhodes at H&S Yachts. Although I havent had him do any work personally (your afore mentioned I already installed my autopilot myself), I see him on our docks regularly. Havent heard any complaints. 800 845 7420 is the toll free number. If you need any help getting it handled let me know.

I have done a turn in the "sandbox" too, thanks for serving your country :)
Cheers

Levin, if the guy at H&S doesn't work out, send me a private message and and I'll check around. One of the guys on my dock works for a firm out of Dana Point. They may cover as far south as San Diego.

We'll be in and out of Two Harbors on the weekends in March. Stop by the boat if you see us and we'll be glad to buy you a drink. I make a mean mai tai.

Thanks...

Hello again...

Thanks for the info. Sounds like my best bet is the Nathan Rhodes fellow. I'll try to give the toll free number a call. Assuming I just ask for him and go from there right? Anyway thanks Rick for the heads up on that.

Windward... as for the offer for a Mia Tia... that sounds great. Though if we're hanging out in Two Harbors isn't the local drink called "Buffalo Milk"? Though after seven months without any alcohol even a PBR sounds great right now :)

Take care...
-Levin

BTW... Rick Webb thanks for the offer for a care package, but I'll be leaving in about two weeks and likely it wouldn't make it on time. But believe me the thought is appreciated.

A Buffalo Milk at the bar is a tradition, but you can't beat a good rum drink when on the mooring at happy hour. Just look for the Hunter 40.5 with kayaks (one blue and one orange) on either side and dinghy davits.

Sounds like you are just about a single-digit midget if they still use the term in today's military.

And I have the recipe for Buffalo Milk if anyone wants it...
