Need a good east coast cruising guide Ma. to Vi

Does anyone have a guide they use that they would recommend to me? I’m going to be sailing from The Maine-Mass. State line south to Norfolk, Virginia. I’m not looking to explore every nook and cranny I just want to move through the area safely. I have the charts but haven’t picked up any guides yet.Thanks

I can help you on the Chesapeake Bay

A free resource on line that might get you the information that you are looking for on the Chesapeake Bay portion of your trip (if you go that way) is http://www.38degreesnorth.com/ This site has reviews and "ratings" by boaters of different anchorages and marinas as well as marina contact information. Many of the reviews have the GPS coordinates as well.If you did want all of the Nooks and Crannies I'd suggest the "Chesapeake Bay Crusing Guide", which I think runs around $30.Regards! -Jim-s/v Forever

Waterway Guide

Richard,I'd highly recommend the Waterway Guide. They make them for various areas of the US. It will give you any info you'll need on marinas & anchorages including amenities (ice?, Gas/diesel?, water depth @ fuel dock, etc), as well as the VHF channel they monitor, phone number, etc. They also have pictures of charts, recommended approaches, what to look out for (shipping traffic, rip tide, shoaling, bad holding in an anchorage) and more.It will give you information on the town, too, like what's available within walking distance, how easy is it to get a ride into town, what you can see there.
