I recently purchased a 1978 Morgan OI 33' sailboat and the coupler was loose and tore up the set screws and I think that I striped the threads getting them out, so I will need a new coupler and new set screws at the very least. But, I don't know what make the transmission is so I can order a coupler. It has a 55 HP Perkins diesel. Does anyone know what type of transmission was used with the Perkins that year? Thanks for you time, Daniel

I don't know exactly how your's is configured, Dan, but it may very well be a generic coupler that's available from most marine suppliers. I got a replacement coupler for the Merry Bee (M28OI w/Universal M20 diesel)from our local marina - took 1 day, and only cost about 50 bucks. Mine is a simple 4-bolt flanged coupling for 7/8" shaft. It came with new setscrews. Jim Maroldo Ocean Gate, NJ

The transmission is probably a "Velvet Drive" that is mfred by Borg Warner (I believe). Very reliable, hydrallic operation. Check the fluid once a month and change it 1 a yr. Other sailor is correct, couplers are generic. You may have to purchase both halves to fix your prob. Why not just re thread the set screws?
