Made the overnighter from Sldell to Pensacola yesterday and last night. Mfy first offshore venture of the year. We were never very far out, and it wouldn't be called blue water sailing, but it was offshre, and very enjoyable. Believe it or not, the weather was as forecast, and just about perfect. We mostly broad reached all the way, made it in almost exactly 24 hours. The only fly in the ointment was waiting for the RR bridge at the Rigolets. And it could have been a couple degrees warmer about 3 this morning.

Excellent! Was the bridge broken or just a train on the way?

Are you in Pensacola for a vacation, moving boat to new location, or what? Where will you moor/get a slip? How long are you planing on staying in the area?

Questions answered

I helped a friend bring his boat over to have some work done on it. There was a train coming and we just had to wait it out. We went on the S. side of Cat Island, and the markers are pretty good through there. I think total distance was pretty close to 160 or so.. But we were cooking pretty good most of the night. Saw a lot of 7 knots SOG on the GPS. We are in the Pensacola Marine facility, slip B 16. Will be here at least a couple more days. No set plans once they get done working on the boat. Have some parts coming that won't be here till at least tomorrow, and were hanging around the boat most of the day. Anyone in the area, come by and say Hi.

Pensacola for boat work.

It is hard to get things done right and reasonably fast in the New Orleans area, unless you can do it yourself. My friend is a CPA, and doesn't know which end of a scresdriver you hold on to. Troendle over here is very, very good. And they don't screw around. Not cheap, but their work is top notch. Besides, needed and excuse to make an offshore run.
