Sailing Today Test

While I have no direct experience, Sailing Today ( British Mag) rates the Navman it Best Buy for wind instrumentation. (July 2002) Test comparison was between 9 different models from 7 manufacturers. Sailing Today does have a much more intensive testing program than US magazines. IMO wind instruments are the hardest instruments to evaluate. Hope this helps a little.

Navman Wind 3100

We put one of these on our boat last year. The unit worked well but water leaked into the display during a hard rain. The Navman folks said that shouldn't have happened, asked me to return the display and replaced it with a new one. I should add that the unit was usable even after the leak and we kept using it until the end of the season, when we exchanged it. We're happy with it and the price is definitely right.

I have navman 3100 depth wind and repeater. I interface my garmin gps to it too. I have found no problems and they were easy to install, wire and operate. I chose the Navman over others because of price and because of Navman's open (non-proprietary) network. I can interface an nmea capitiable device to it with out the need for a interface module. Navman support center is pretty good. I called their support center and they walked me through my garmin interface. Ted

I think that in todays age most gear is similar in performance and so forth but I must say from experiance Navman are tops for service. An excellent company to deal with.
