Don't let the iSailor thing skeer ya. They make it for the googles too.
So, gunni, if I find iSailor I can simply download the Android version and try it out? Yours truly, the smart phone dummy. :)

Ha! If it works like Apple you go to the Android store on your device and download. The app is free, you pay for the chart regions, tide data, weather overlay, AIS feed etc.

No endorsement, but I am also evaluating a mobile app product from NV Charts, theirs is free with some limitations. NVCharts makes chart kits compatible with my Navico Simrad chartplotter, an alternative to the cranky Navionics software. Better charts in some cases.

Bummer. I suspected that. NV is Dutch and they have lots of Atlantic - Euro coverage.

Stu,

Don't give up just yet. The app runs fine on my motorolla MotoG android phone with 2 gb memory and 16 gb internal storage. You might try contacting them by using this form:

http://navionics.force.com/MobileTech?cancel=http://navionics.force.com/kb

When I contacted them the other day with my issue, they got back to me withing a couple of hours. BTW, they suggested the fix I already discovered on my own. They also have a chat option here:

Look for the navionics folder in your file structure, if you haven't already, and make sure you delete that after the uninstall and before reinstalling.

Edit: I just checked things on my phone and navionics uses about 114 mb of memory when running (similar to the amount that facebook uses running in the background) and it takes up about 71 mb of storage on the phone. So it isn't a huge resource hog.

ses, thanks, I'll have to try that next, I didn't thoroughly clean it out, it appears.

Update:
I uninstalled the app.
I disabled some other apps I don't use and cleared a lot of caches.
I reinstalled Navionics. It "remembered me" and I only have 9 days left of the 14 day trial.
I tried to move it to the SD card but it didn't let me do that.
I do not like this thing. :)
Still no contours, typeface is too small to read depths.
There should be a setting on the phone to default the app downloads to save to the SD card rather than internal memory. Someone mentioned it above, but internal memory is typically low to force you to use the cloud or an external card.

In terms of the contours, the free trial should give you access to the different chart types so you should be able to get the contour charts (SonarChart). If you tap the circle icon in the lower left corner, you should be able to alternate between chart types. If it doesn't give you the SonarChart option, try zooming in a bit, maybe? It could also be the contour resolution, which I believe you can change under map options in the menu.

I wouldn't bother running it on a phone. Too small, and the phone is busy (CPU wise) doing other stuff. Just buy a cheap 8" tablet dedicated (mostly) to your boat, as a backup device to your MFD, an anchor dragging app (I use drag queen), and when not in use store it in a zip lock bag. Since my phone has a wifi hotspot built in, my 8" tablet connect to the phone for updates. BTW, navionics works perfect.

Here is another use for navionics. I actually have a mini-PC (android) that has HDMI output to the TV. I also have a mini keyboard to control navionics.
