Does anyone know where I can get Navigation lights and spreader lights for a cheaper price than west marine. There prices should be illegal. :)

Have you checked Ebay

I always look at the lights and stuff for sale on Ebay. Never know what you're likely to find . And save a buck or two. Just check the feedback and ask questions. And send money orders only. Keep it up, Ctskip

West Marine prices

I have a West Marine about a mile away. Great bunch of people. On a lot of my purchases, I have taken the best internet prices, printed them, and taken them to the W/M Manager. He has always matched the prices. I am not one to beat up the local guy on his profit, to be honest, I would pay A LITTLE more at a local place than the internet. Keeping money local is important to me and better for the hood. If you have a W/M near by, get to know them and give it a try. Good luck, Jack

Ace Hardware

Try Ace Hardware. If they dont ordinarily have it in stock, they will order it for you and add 20% mark-up, which is not bad at all. I have done this in Ms., La,. and yes even in Destin, Fl. Even with their 20% mark-up, its still way way less than WM. They usually look up the part in their many marine catalogs, call the wholesaler while you are there , give you the final price, and normally its there the next day and NO SHIPPING CHARGES.

ebay lights

I have bought new lighting this winter to install in the spring off ebay , the individual happens to have an ebay store , he goes by boaterbits , he delivers everytime , very good prices , and comparable quality , he is not the only I have bought from on ebay and I have gotten non delivered , in that I have learned it is my choice to use paypal , paying with money orders or personal checks I would have had no recourse . Luckily it was only a $20. purchase . YMMV

Yes

Try the link below. their prices are better, but still not cheap. If it says marine, it will cost three times more than it's worth. Depending on what lights you are looking for , you might want to try a RV store. some parts are the same but cheaper.

Dont Buy RV Parts

"some parts are the same but cheaper". If you are able to find RV Nav lights and Spreader lights, i'm sure they wont be the same quality as marine parts. There is a reason that marine parts cost mich more than RV parts. Awww forget it, some people will never understand.

non-marine parts

I tend to agree with you Bob. Generally, it's self dillusion thinking you are saving money buying cheap parts but generalities are dangerous - it's hard to tell from some of these posts but if someone is a fresh water protected lake sailor, the absense of a harsh salt water environment could make some otherwise questionable choices not so bad after all.

Try a local fisherman supply

they use boats too sometimes. Go ahead and use cheap stuff if your situation doesn't warrant a gold plated whatever Check your area for a used equipment shop

are we joking?

Nav light which must be US Coast Guard approved are only $25-50 each. Spreader lights can be had for less than $40. I suppose you can hang a couple of seal beam from Pep Boys on your spreaders for a couple of bucks less! Maybe I am missing something here?

Steve, steaming light $$$$

Ok I am really beginning to question what use guys do in the water. I actually prefer to sail at night. WHY? It's cooler in the summer and a lot less busy. Plus pensacola is beautiful lit up at night. Our beaches are the whitest in the world, which on a moonlight night you could read a book without a light. ANYWAYS, I realize that MARINE stuff is costly. It just seems like West Marine just reems you on everything. I think they are great people but comon; Are you telling me a piece of plastic and a lightbulb cost $100???? I was referring to the steaming light/deck light combo that West sells. I was also looking for more LED options when I did this post. Thanks for all of the replies.

Thanks sailortonyb

That sounds like a great idea. I was able to find some stuff on Perko's sight but they will not sell unless you are a distributor.

You may not want to replace any lights......

You may not want to replace any of the headlights or taillights on your vehicles that are currently mfg. today. It is common for a headlight to cost $200-500 each. I will agree that W/M is overpriced, but they will price match if you bring in prices from other retailers. LED's are still very expensive even if you shop for them. I think we are looking at a few more years before they become affordable.

Try going to Scurvy Dog on Myrick Street by Pensacola Shipyard. They will order for you and sell for 10% over theri cost. Great folks to deal with. They deal mainly in used item and you may ind what you need at a really good price that way. Grant Ziebell SV Nemo Pensacola, FL
