Any suggestions on a navigation app. iNavX is recommended but a little pricey. I saw Marine Navigation for a lot less. Just wondering if anyone has experience with any of these. Thanks

His point is that this topic comes up once a month. Then every one chines in, singing the praises of the ONE app they bought, and how its the best. Then it degrades into a big opinion debate that clouds the issue more.
So what I recommend. Think about how YOU will use it. Make a list of the apps that do that AND have maps for where YOU sail. Buy or trial 3 of them, that should be rather cheap. Use the best.

Dont buy on price. Buy on accuracy and versatility.
iNavX is still 'the best' .... but only use it as a 'backup' to a dedicated chart plotter.
The problem with most APP to smartphone offerings is that theyre based on old fashioned NOAA 'raster' charts.
The 'better' way to go (for accuracy/backup) is to use a laptop running a S57 vector based charting system ... and then 'mirror' the laptop to whatever smartphone/tablet youre using in the cockpit.
On a 'mac' system - Mac laptop with GPS 'puck' running with MacENC to 'Air Play' to a smart phone/ipad ... simply cant be beat. http://macenc.en.softonic.com/mac

I got another one a couple of days ago, MotionX I think. A buck 99, shoot I'll play with it for that. Coincidentally, it worked well yesterday when I went out for a minute.

NatchezFirst, what OS are you using? I use an Android and my choice is Marine Navigator. I tried Navionics and although it was nice, the charts looked like they were drawn by third graders. On top of that, I didn't care for all the symbols they put on their charts. Marine Navigator uses NOAA charts, not proprietary charts. That in my opine is a major plus.
I use INavX and Navionics as a supplement to my onboard Raymarine system. I like the ETA features of Navionics and I get AIS information on INavX. I use Garmin's app for Active Captain information.
Navionics is faster for setting up routes and you can insert another waypoint in the route easier than INavX. They both complement each other.
