I purchased a 30 ft Newport with a Navico Wheel Pilot in a box. I do not know if it has been used. I installed it, the electrical connection had already been installed. It works electrically and the belt fits. The drive motor will not turn the wheel. The belt has coarse teeth that match the drive motor. The motor turns the belt however the wheel drum has very fine grooves and the belt slips. On my next visit will lubricate the steering system however I do not expect an improvement. I have gone to the Navico web site and attempted to contact Navico Inc. in Largo FL at 1 813 524 1555. I am looking for a Navico service center or retailer in the US. I have also contacted 800 info and got a non working number. Does anyone have a good phone number for Navico or advice concerning this autopilot?

If its like my one the motor is mounted on the cockpit sole. There is a lever and cam system to tighten the belt. There are three parts a lever, a cam wheel with teeth that mesh into the lever and a pin to hold it all together. If I remember there is a small mark on the cam wheel that has to be opposite the lever. Basically you slip the belt over the toothed wheel and then over the drive wheel on the steering wheel and push the lever over the cam to tighten. The drive wheel has no teeth so the belt can slip when the cam is in the loose position and you can steer manually. Hope this helps. They are a great piece of kit and seem robust enough too.
