I have a very specific question. Has anyone installed a Navico WP300CX or Simrad WP30 Wheelpilot on a Hunter 29.5 with the cockpit table console? If so, how did you do it? I'm not sure all Hunter 29.5's have the integrated fiberglass cockpit table console, but mine does. The standard mounting for the WP300CX uses clamping bands (giant hose clamps) to clamp around a standard column console. This will not work on my boat! My console is more like a "T" shape with the wheel mounted on the top of the "T". The leg of the "T" is the cockpit table. I've talked to Simrad and they have a bulkhead mounting kit for mounting to a flat surface. Before I invest another $160+ in the kit, I'd like to know if anybody else has been down this same road with success! I'd really like to get this autopilot installed. It seemed like it would be a relatively simple job, but somehow things never are as simple as they seem! I would appreciate any help. Thanks, Skip Loofboro S/V Hope Four

Probably should buy the kit.

Did you ask about the warranty? Just wonder if it could be voided by not installing it to their specs. I have the same unit and a similar problem. My Edson column does not have the same diameter at the two points where the bands will make contact. Still considering my options but haven't called Simrad yet. Once you see the kit you'll know you could have built it for one-fourth the cost. :)

all wet

I want to autopilot a console too

Glad to see someone else is having this anxiety... I am looking at the Ratheon ST -4000 for a 96 Hunter 280...the ST 3000 seems like it would work for sure... but the belt is not so cool. What models did you consider, why. bauer@casebauer.com Will try an install on Friday 6-30-00

It is easy

1. Drill a 1 7/8 hole in console and insert the Ratheon drive unit (locate it carefullt so as not to block the throttle or the chain). 2. Cut a round hole in the smoked glass plate on the console (also cut the fiberglass behind it) 3. Run the power line and compass along the throttle cable pathway. 4. Mount the compass on the trap door in the aft bearth. 5. Fish the power line up throught the headliner, through the head, and to the power station. Took me 3 hours.
