Nav Table Finish

Hi -
I'm thinking about refinishing the nav table and am wondering what type of finish it is. Seems to me its neither oil nor varnish. Could it be either stain or polyurethane? A few other parts inside the boat have the same finish. It seems to dissolve at least partially if wiped with acetone. I don't think varnish would do that.

Thanks!
Gary

It is likley Daly's Profin if it has a varnish like finish. Hunter used Daly's Seafin teak oil on the wood (really a tung oil I'm told), and the Profin is a perfect finish coat for that.
I finished my interior wood work with Profin, and I'm quite happy with the results and have had many complements on the results.

Thanks FourPoints! Reading up on the Profin, I see it is a mix of tung oil and urethane. Interesting.
Thanks,
Gary

Maybe it is Semco. Just refinished my cockpit table and it maintains the wood look. Rumored to deteriorate gracefully unlike varnish or the like.

After doing a search on this site, it looks like this subject has been pretty well covered. The consensus seems to be that Hunter used (and still uses) the Daly's products. The nav table finish is probably Daly's Profin. There seems to be some debate as to what Profin really is - sounds to me like an oil-based urethane.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions on alternatives. I personally like the look of deep, glossy varnish. But I don't really know the pros and cons of the various finishes out there.

Not the best pics (cell phone), but this is the Profin Gloss finish over the Seafin Teak Oil.
