Has anybody completed any modifications to the Nav station in a 1980 Hunter 30? Also I would like to move the electric panel into this area. Any comments would be appriciated> Thanks Murray

Start here.

Take a look at the projects on Eric's dedicated H30 site(Related Link). Another source is the Photo Forum here on HOW. I like to look at the pictures on www.yachtworld.com, get lots of ideas for upgrades.

Modification

We use our Nav station for less Nav and more storage. The original Nav station really prevented reasonable access to the quarter berth and hence the rear engine access panel. I cut about six inches from the top and storage box (measured side to side). Now we have a useable Nav desk top and storage box but easier entry to the berth.

I am looking to move my electric panel

I am also looking to move my electric panel. I wear bifocals and it must be Hunters idea of a joke to put the switch panel at floor level. (if you wear bifocals you know what I mean) I intend not to rewire the whole boat but replace the current panel with a screw strips and run new wires to the new panel unless it is easy to replace the complete old wire. Keep me posted. I will phot my changes as they occur.

Our old boat ...

Ed, Thanks for the props on my (now outdated) site. This Spring we are in the final stages of our overall restoration of this boat. We've been lucky all along that the interior is in such great shape (and had those custom modifications made already) so our goal was to work out the finer details. Four coats of topside (with non-skid additive), complete redo of all the teak (Cetol), new plumbing and new carpeting throughout has made our 1978 a true beauty. I hope to get some good pictures this weekend (it's been raining every weekend this Spring in NY) and will put them on the site. When I do this, I'll post a link on this forum and on the Cherubini forum as well. Thanks again and fair winds! Eric
