Any feedback on these, and how does one use the same thru hull for exhaust and intake? I sure like the idea of using diesel to heat with in case of electric failure (shorepower) and also when cruising, not always tropical! r

Robert, I have one.

It's the 30D, seen in photos 50-52 on my web site. Look to the top of various nav station photos for the optional digital controller. Output is about 10500 BTUs. Some history; I bought an Espar 12K BTU model when the boat was new. Worst product ever designed by humans!!! We buried it a sea. The boat was in the Caribbean so I didn't shop for a new heater again until the rebuild was underway. My buddy installed a Nautic in his boat(same model, but basic controller) and he recommend it. We have sister ships. Well, I found that many of the horrible Espar problems are not present in this design, like the rotten (literally) combustion chamber. One thing that hasn't changed is the price. My unit was over $2300.00 and that was if I installed it. Compare that to a home furnace. Anyway, I went with the digital controller. It has a readable function panel. But the temperature is controlled using the Celsius scale. That could lead to noticeable variations because each degree is what, 2.2 Fahrenheit degrees? But it never is a problem. The reason is, this unit doesn't shut off. It just slows down and reduces it's fuel drip to as little as 30% of full output. That also means that is runs on about 1 amp of power. No using the glo-plug except during start up. The digital controller counts operation hours. Mine had 4000+ hours the first year because I left it running during the rebuild of our boat. No sense in having to warm up in the mornings, right? Or is that eh? Well that killed the combustion air blower. I called the dealer. He checked my paperwork and told me I called him on the last day of my warranty. He fixed it for free. A $100.00 part. And I think he would have charged me if I was a day late. He's an old Swed that knows the value of money. Anyway, I'm happy with it. Works well. Maintenance involves disassembly to clean the fire box every thousand hours or so. The software says every 500hrs. It alerts you. But the dealer says 1K hrs is sufficient. He's right. Unless you live aboard, you may never get there. It's a good choice but it's not available on the open market. You won't find it at sailnet. Dealer only. That equals high bucks. P.S. Photo 51 explains the exhaust system.
