So for the first time ever, I think, we are the only boat at one of the most popular anchorages in Casco Bay on MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND....:doh: Never, ever did I think that was even possible....

Why....????

Pouring rain, some fog, 45 degrees and 30+ knots.... Hardly feels like memorial day weekend...:cussing:


Oh and for those who pooh, pooh the dodger.... :D;)




P.S Our cabin is soooo dry and toasty warm our daughter was sticking balloons to herself via static... That never happened with LPG heat especially when outside it was 98% RH.........

EEoowww .. That is like winter here!.. Good that you guys are warm and toasty.. I love that feeling of being comfortable inside a boat while it is raw and wet out.. Great for reading and listening to music!

Well I'm home catching up on household chores while my boat is being thoroughly washed by Mother Nature. I had to relent and turn on the heat again in the house this morning-just too cold and nasty.

While this Memorial Day weekend is a real bust for us northeast sailors, it has been my experience that most Memorial Day weekends are much less than optimum. In fact I generally don't even care if I am ready to go for the season or not by Memorial Day.

Even on the Chesapeake Bay the temps topped out in the low 60's and the winds were gusting above 25kts. Not a great day for sailing. The NW winds blew the water out of the bay so that low tide was about 2 feet below MLW and we are on a spring tide.

You remind me of many a Memorial Day weekend with our young kids aboard. Some of them were soggy but nobody cared!

Today, I'm just as happy to be on the hard with the garboard plug still out, Maine.

Tomorrow though, you'll be the envy(if the forecast is any indication).

Ya'll need to get that weather out of the way, I am leaving for Maine this afternoon with a load of North Carolina's and China's finest furniture going all over Maine!
Ross, that always amazes me when the wind blows the water out of the creeks, rivers and bay up there!

Worse yet Memorial weekend is the traditional opening of swimming season for me. I may have to alter the opening to the last weekend of May - which should be Memorial day.

Memorial Day weekend is traditionally our first on the boat, and we usually spend it at that anchorage, often polishing the decks and the stainless. A couple things kept us from that tradition this year.

First, we just got launched on Wednesday and the yard couldn't get our mast up this week. Second, there were a few long-neglected house projects calling to us. Third, our sanity is still intact.

So... how is it out there? The Portland wx buoy seems to have lost its anemometer, nearby they're saying it's been out of the north or northwest the last 24 hours.

It's great out here Gail. We just sailed up from Portland. Headsail only and we averaged about 6.5kts. Too bad you guys aren't here. We are having our first lobster bake of the season tonight.

Wish i was there but my wife wasnt happy with the temperatures forecast of 30`s tonight. We will get a day sail in on Monday as that is looking rather nice when compared to all of last week.

The weekend turned out ok! We got some nice high pressure that moved in late this afternoon and dried things off. We headed over to the island for a lobster bake..

The sail home must have been good, we had to double reef the main, wind in the genoa and just leave the stay sail up, gusting 35kts and averaging 25kts, but a glorious memorial day sail, at least the rain had stopped.

We had a great sail home. Reefed headsail and staysail. No main. Top speed through the water was 7.8.
