Do you think I've done justice to Narraganset Bay?

247 nautical miles.

Tomorrow, I run down to Jamestown under power to put a good charge on the batteries and them move ashore to this house for a week with the boat moored out front. It will be a nice break after nearly a 10 months on the boat with a wedding to put the icing on the cake.

After that, with possibly a visit to the shipyard across from Fall River that built four of my research vessels, it's on to Buzzards Bay and the Cape.

Roger,

Great posts. Did the sailing coach know who was anchoring? Someone needs to tell the rookies that Strider was home to (in)famous naval designer.

And such a house! Isn't that the kind of house you wrote of along the Chesapeake? So now we learn that you are really one of those who can enjoy a luxurious house too?

Back to pictures of schooner. Was it all wood? Imagine taking the widows walk to untangle the Genoa furling spool...

So take your spot with you to the house and places you visit. As someone mentioned earlier there are several used boat parts stores near you, and some consignment stores, too.

Take some pictures of them for those who are not as familiar with area as you. I have been across those bridges traversing the channels. Ask why Rhode Island does not have a limited access highway connecting them straight west across to I-95 south.

And are you planning a visit to the famous house on a rock?

Outstanding, Roger.. I am reminded of the Nantucket directions.. "..turn by the gray house" ! Seemed like every house on the island was gray.

Roger,

One of the parts of Narragansett bay that you did not yet visit is the Sakonnet Passage (charts call it a river, but it never was and never will be a river). If you have the time tomorrow, you could go down the Sakonnet, West thru Rhode Island Sound (South of Middletown & Newport) and re-enter Narragansett Bay up o Jamestown. It should be a pleasant trip (weather willing). Good luck and good rest on your week at Jamestown.

I'm planning to go out that way since I expect to go up to Somerset right after I get underway again.

Say, I think I saw a Hunter named "Puffin" somewhere. Potter Cove?

You covered it well. I was surprised to see you even hit the Kickamuit River off Mt. Hope Bay which is my favorite little anchorage for getting away from it all. Depending on your leaving time, Fogland on the East side of the Sakonnet is a nice well protected little overnight staging area to head out in your direction.

Looks like you grabbed that town mooring in Wickford while I was at home for my 3 day weekend doing house and yard work. Oh... welll, although I didn't recognize the 'little cottage';) you'll be staying in but maybe if I finally get out on the boat this weekend I'll give you a wave.

Hi Roger, Unless there is another "Puffin" inthe area, you probably saw it on the hard at Pirate Cove Marina just opposite the dinghy dock. It has white hull, green bottom paint and bow facing dinghy dock. Dick, S/V Puffin 1990 H-33.5

Looks like you are really roughing it out there! What a gorgeous home ......
I hope we are able to come visit that area sometime in the next couple years, it is amazingly beautiful, especially compared to California!!

BTW, we were watching the special on Pearl Harbor and the Japanese 2 man subs and I heard your name mentioned! I looked up and got all excited telling my husband "that's the Roger Long that I have been tracking all these months"!.... That was very cool!!!!

And didn't you see Kathleen when you went up the Kickamuit? She lives up there. Also, the last time Tim tried to get home via the Sakonnet he wasn't permitted thru the bridge construction site so check that out before you get all the way up to Common Fence Point and discover you can't go that way.
