Anybody have any experience or thoughts about repowering (replacing a 3QM30) with a Nanni diesel??

Thanks,

Some have installed Nanni

I know at least one other H37C owner - Sandpiper10471 - installed an Nanni diesel. You can contact him through this forum. What's the matter with the Yanmar?

Re: Some have installed Nanni

I've been having overheating problems after running at 2000 rpms for about two hours. Mechanic says enjoy is badly scaled after checking everything. Has by-passed the thermostat and suggested I baby it through the remainder of the season and as boat show approaches start thinking. . . .

Turns out that the Nanni is also a Kubota like so many others. I see that you have to make a transmission selection from quite a varied list. Like my 3YM30 it appears to be a very light engine, less than 150 pounds I think(without the tranny). The layout is similar also with the exhaust on port instead of starboard like our QM engines.

If I do go with a Nanni or a 3YM30 (two engines under consideration at the moment), I realize the exhaust port is on the wrong side. I could either pump in the rear of the vessel or move the exhaust port to the port side of the boat. Probably want to move it higher because it is difficult to see the exhaust on the boat. Ed what did you and other do??

The weight difference should be a positive difference in the performance of the vessel???
Thanks,

Emil

My entire engine project is documented here in Hunter Owners Mods. All under "Yanmar . . ." . Unfortunately not one picture of the exhaust connection. But check this picture of the exhaust on the old 2QM20. You can see that it was no problem moving that hose over to the port side exhaust elbow.

Oh, and the weight is probably a non-issue because our boats are so heavy.
