I embrace nothing, except perhaps my cynical view on the subject matter. Perhaps you discount my being facetious, and are taking my repartee a bit too serious. To each his own ceremonies. For me, instead of burning goats or sprinkling virgin's urine it was two hours with a heat gun removing the irony of years stuck to her side. My thought was, replacing the French misnomer with something more suitably American would be ritual enough for Aeolus and his contemporaries. Two years and more has proved while perhaps not right, I was not wrong, and my boat she is much releived in being rid of her former French designation.

in the same, uh, boat

I just closed the deal on my previously-named pride and joy yesterday, and am facing the same dilemma. Any boat-naming my family has done before has been to previously unnamed boats, or those with unknown previous names, and we've had good luck(I'm knocking on my wooden desk as type this). While I respect the tradition, I'm certain Neptune isn't fond of some of her previous treatment. I see my purchase as something akin to a rescue, and any christening ceremony next spring will be a tribute to Neptune's blessing in my rescue of her :)

No harm meant and I apologize if I came off wrong. Perhaps I did take you too seriously. As I said, I like the ceremony because it is an excuse for a party.
